L-Carnitine Supplementation May Help Relieve Intermittent Claudication.

Research conducted at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center has demonstrated that patients with peripheral arterial disease, who are symptomatic with intermittent claudication, show a marked improvement in exercise performance and functional capacity when supplemented with L-Carnitine. Claudication results from a temporary inadequate supply of oxygen to the muscles of the leg. Supplementation with L-carnitine may improve metabolism and exercise performance of ischemic muscles. Preliminary studies have shown that L-carnitine supplementation improves treadmill performance in individuals with intermittent claudication.
