Metabolic Syndrome Exacts High Human and Financial Costs in the United States.Americans with metabolic syndrome (a.k.a. Syndrome X), a condition marked by overweight, high blood sugar, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, account for $4 of every $10 spent on prescription drugs for adults, according to a report by Medco Health Solutions, a huge prescription benefits manager. Their report stated that adult use of medication for this syndrome jumped by 36% between 2002 and 2004. Annual prescription costs for people 20 and older with metabolic syndrome averaged $4,116 in 2004, 4.2 times the average amount spent on drugs by that age group. The study was taken from a review of prescription records from a random sample of Medco’s 2 million clients. According to various estimates, at least one in four American adults and roughly one in eight children have metabolic syndrome, with overeating and inactivity being key causes. Such individuals have two or more related conditions, including high blood pressure, low levels of good cholesterol, high levels of blood fats called triglycerides, and high blood sugar. Many have diabetes or will eventually. People with metabolic syndrome are as twice as likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke and more than three times as likely to die early from those causes. Supplemental herbs and nutrients may significantly reduce blood sugar levels and inhibit the long-term damage caused by chronically high blood sugar. Bio-Design Glucobiotic can be a significant addition to a program of blood sugar monitoring, improved diet and moderate exercise in an effort to control diabetes without medication. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
